Who can use document delivery and interlibrary loan services?

  • Faculty, staff, and current students affiliated with NYULMC, NYU School of Medicine, NYU College of Dentistry, and NYU College of Nursing may use NYUHSL's document delivery services.
  • Alumni of NYU School of Medicine should use the Alumni Digital Library for document delivery requests.
  • Alumni of NYU College of Dentistry and NYU College of Nursing are not eligible to use NYUHSL's document delivery services.
  • If you are an unaffiliated user (i.e., Loansome Doc subscriber or corporate user), see the "Unaffiliated Users" section.
  • We do not serve the NYU Washington Square campus. Bobst Library offers an interlibrary loan service for faculty, staff, and students at Washington Square.

Fees

  • Interlibrary loan and document delivery services are free for faculty, staff, and students of NYULMC, NYU College of Dentistry and NYU College of Nursing.
  • There is a $5.00 charge per request for rush service. See "How long will it take to get an article, book or book chapter?" for information on rush turnaround times.
  • You will receive an invoice for each rush request. Payment is accepted in cash, by check or by IOI form (no credit cards).
  • All invoices are to be paid on time. Patrons who do not pay their invoices will be blocked from document delivery services until the balance is paid in full.

Are there any limits on document delivery?

  • For journals held by NYUHSL in print, patrons may request a maximum of 10 articles at a time. Once a request has been filled, additional items may be requested.
  • Photocopying is limited to 50 consecutive pages and cannot be greater than 2/3 of the whole publication.
  • Photocopying or reproduction cannot be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research (U.S. copyright law; Title 17, U.S. Code).

How many books may I borrow through interlibrary loan?

Patrons may hold a maximum of 10 interlibrary loan books at a time.

Can I renew my interlibrary loan?

Most interlibrary loan materials can be renewed. Due dates and renewal eligibility information will be displayed on the band attached to the book. Renewals may be requested by phone, e-mail, or in person at the Document Delivery Services Department.

How can I speed my document request?

  • NYUHSL provides access to thousands of journals electronically. To download, save or print an article yourself, search NYUHSL's e-resources for the journal name.
  • NYUHSL also has a small selection of print journals; you may visit the library and copy these items yourself. To check if NYUHSL holds an item in print, search HSLCat.
  • If you are not able to search for items yourself, you may request rush service to speed your document request for a nominal fee.
