The Herman Robbins Medical Library at the Hospital for Joint Diseases is one of the Health Sciences Libraries at the NYU Langone Medical Center. In 1993, the library was named after Dr. Herman Robbins, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (1972-1981), for his invaluable and indefatigable service to the Hospital for Joint Diseases--its residents, patients and staff.
In 2007, the Robbins Medical Library underwent a major renovation to accommodate the changing environment of libraries of the 21st Century. We take the needs of our users very seriously. Therefore, over $500,000 was spent on making sure those needs were met, with updated environmental systems, new network infrastructures (including wireless access points), new computers, a conference room with SmartBoard and videoconferencing technology, and eco-friendly interiors and furniture. The Robbins Medical Library works closely with highly skilled staff and faculty at the Ehrman Medical Library to ensure our new library and library services are fully utilized.
Reserve the conference room using our online reservation form, in person Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm, or by phone at (212) 598-6275. Please review our reservation and usage policy before making a reservation.
The Robbins Medical Library print collection consists of orthopaedics-related core titles, as well as several older volumes not available online.
To continue growing as a strong electronics information resource center for the 21st Century, the Robbins Medical Library is focusing on developing a comprehensive collection of onsite multimedia material, such as DVDs and CDs.
Ehrman Medical Library provides the Robbins Medical Library with public services librarians specially trained in assisting medical staff, support staff, and faculty with search services for clinical research and information.
The library is staffed Monday to Friday, 8am - 6pm
Staff office is closed on weekends and holidays
Swipe Access
Twenty-four hour access is available to medical staff and faculty with an HJD ID. NYU Langone Medical Center IDs will not work with our swipe system. Members of the Medical Center and School of Medicine must go down to Security and present them with a Medical Center ID containing a sticker with the current year. Security will then issue an HJD ID to them. Support (nonmedical) staff has 9 to 5 access; support staff IDs will not work after 5pm and before 9am.
