Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID)

ORCID is a widely used unique researcher/author identifier scheme. An ORCID ID is a 16 character code (e.g., "0000-0001-5390-4394") which allows researcher/authors to be unambiguously identified, regardless of name similarities or name changes. ORCID IDs supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized and credited appropriately. Read more at https://orcid.org/.

Why use ORCID?

  1. Anyone submitting a biosketch for an NIH grant application, so senior and key personnel, must have an ORCID, and the ORCID must be linked to the investigator’s eRA Commons Account.
  2. Publications in an ORCID record can be used to populate an NIH Biosketch. See here for both automated and manual processes for uploading publications to an ORCID profile.
  3. The ORCID profile is linked to from the NIH biosketch.
  4. Using the ORCID allows for more accurate retrieval of a researcher’s publications, and so a more accurate record within the NYU Faculty Bibliography.
