Data Catalog Coordinator

NYU Health Sciences Library seeks applicants for the position of Data Catalog Coordinator to
plan and conduct outreach efforts promoting the Library’s Data Catalog
(https://datacatalog.med.nyu.edu/) to NYU Langone researchers, and create and curate
metadata describing researcher datasets. The applicant will also be responsible for participating
in a national collaboration to share resources and expertise around data discovery.

This individual will report to the Head of Data Sharing and Metadata Management and will be a
member of the library’s Data Services Team, which offers support, consultations, and training
to researchers. As part of the Library’s Data Services Team, the Data Catalog Coordinator will
collaborate with colleagues on additional tasks and projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing methods to identify datasets for inclusion in the Data
    Catalog.
  • Planning, conducting, and documenting outreach initiatives to researchers and other
    relevant stakeholders on the Data Catalog, data sharing, or other open science
    initiatives.
  • Creating, curating, and maintaining accurate metadata for datasets.
  • Assisting researchers with submitting metadata for datasets.
  • Refining and entering metadata for datasets.
  • Assisting researchers in finding solutions for their data sharing, storage, and transfer
    needs.
  • Participate in research projects and contribute to manuscripts related to the data
    cataloging, curation, and sharing and open science.
  • Other duties within the Data Services Team and the Library as assigned.
  • Serve on library committees and task forces as appropriate.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Familiarity with research culture and processes (e.g., roles on a study team, researcher
    attitudes towards data sharing)
  • Ability to interact effectively with researchers for one-on-one consultations.
  • Documented ability to plan, organize, and implement outreach activities in an academic
    or other relevant setting.
  • Documented ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong understanding of metadata.
  • MLS or other graduate degree (e.g. MPH, graduate-level science degree).
  • Awareness of data storage and data sharing options for biomedical researchers.
