About the Library
William C. Hollis, M.D. served NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island (formerly Winthrop-University Hospital) as Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Director of Medical Education for more than thirty years until his retirement in the late 1970s. He was a mentor to hundreds of physicians and an honored colleague to hundreds more. The Library, constructed in part with contributions from his former students and physician friends, was dedicated to his memory at its opening in May 1989.
